Seasonal Lawn & Landscape Guide for Central Kentucky

Central Kentucky lawns and landscapes need different care as temperatures, rainfall, and plant growth change through the year. This guide explains what to focus on each season and where MOWTION can help.

Spring: reset and prepare

Clear leaves, sticks, and winter debris from the lawn and landscape beds. Refresh bed edges, prune damaged growth where appropriate, and begin weed control and fertilization based on turf conditions. As active growth returns, start dependable weekly mowing before the grass becomes overgrown.

Summer: protect a clean appearance

Keep mowing on a consistent weekly schedule and avoid cutting the turf too short during heat or dry weather. Water deeply when needed, preferably earlier in the day, and watch for weeds, thinning areas, and stressed plants. Trim shrubs and clean beds as growth begins to crowd walkways or hide landscape features.

Early fall: repair and strengthen

Early fall is a practical time to evaluate compacted soil and thin turf. Core aeration and overseeding can improve seed-to-soil contact and help build a denser lawn. Continue mowing while the grass is actively growing and schedule cleanup before heavy leaf accumulation becomes difficult to manage.

Late fall and winter: clean up and plan ahead

Remove leaves, branches, and spent plant material so the property enters winter looking neat. Complete the final mowing visits as growth slows. Winter is also a good time to plan next season’s mulch, decorative rock, new landscape beds, or landscape-lighting improvements.
